What is the Christian Religion that can’t watch Harry Potter and Twilight?

Lauren asked:

My friend from school isn’t aloud to watch any fantasy movies or read fantasy books because of witchcraft although she is Christian. What Christian religion is this. Why can’t she come see Eclipse with me in June- there’s no witchcraft in it?

At my church the priest stressed to the parents that if your kids are going to watch these movies and read the books than to be sure and explain to them that they are only fantasy.
Yes, its true that it does go against many Christian teachings, but only if you believe the Stories to be true.
    She might be Catholic

i dont think its a type of christianity.. i think her family is just like some of my family members… where they think if they expose anything to their kids, that the kid will try it or automatically believe thats its real… kinda annoying.. i grew up in a strict family like that too, wasnt allowed to have tattoos or nothing.. and now i am 22 and got freed from their chains i am going crazy lol got lots of piercings :P i wish you the best.

typically, extremely conservative baptists won’t expose their children to these types of movies/books.

    why?

they trace it back to black magic/demonic activity. i’m a conservative, fundamental baptist but i understand that they’re just fantasy stories. i own all the harry potter movies and have seen the first twilight movie.

it’s pure entertainment and nothing more. i know my faith is solid and i know my name is written in the book of life.

It really depends on individual families. It’s not a certain religion. I am a Christian and my family used to forbid the Harry Potter books because of what we thought was in them. We listened to the people who hadn’t read the books. When we finally decided to give it a try, we found there wasn’t really anything super bad about it. I really enjoyed the books and found nothing encouraging witchcraft.
Most of the people I know aren’t allowed to read the Harry Potter books and they are also Christian. I understand where they are because I used to be there but now I see that if I had listened to people who had read the books, and not the ones who hadn’t, things would have been different. I don’t try to change my friends minds about the books. I respect where they are and their choices but if they want to debate it, I will.
While I have some friends who don’t read it, I also have friends who do that are Christian. It just depends on what you believe as an individual.

So saying, the only reason I haven’t read Twilight or anything is just because I don’t want to.
