You actually believe this don’t you?

What you need to remember is that the bible was compiled under the auspices of the roman emperor Constantine and his successors in an attempt to bring all of the various belief systems of the empire under a common faith.

The result was to be the universal or catholic faith. The word Catholic is derived from the Greek adjective καθολικός (katholikos), meaning “universal”.

There is nothing wrong with this and I do not mean for it to sound derogatory. You just need to realize that it is an amalgamation of the various faiths and the dogma and theology of these belief systems. Even assuming benevolence on the part of Constantine’s people, making this all make sense would have been a monumental task.

The bible relied heavily on Jewish scripture and the New Testament was highly modified to support Paul’s teachings, which included such localized ideas as blood sacrifices to wash away sins, virgin births and resurrection of deceased deities.

Sadly much of the central part of the Jesus theology was lost in the blended mythology. A mythology was created around a great teacher comparable to the Buddha and he was turned into an amalgam of all of the Mediterranean deities. His teachings on love and non-judgment were all but lost in a maze of judgmental often-vindictive gibberish that he would have never agreed with.

Sadly some of the greatest teachings of all time were all but lost in Rome’s effort to be all thing to all people

Why did you ask a question and answer it yourself?
    Oh well. Agreed.

Also, why is everyone else missing that?

Edit: @SDA Frank – The question was referring to the first Christian religion, not the first religion all together.

The first christian religion started with the Romans worshipping Apollo.

A little extra window dressing and a few changes of name and there you go, the Nicean creed.

The church that Jesus and the disciples started looked nothing like the catholic church.
Not any of the other organized religions either.

The Holy Bible had not been compiled yet in 33 A.D.
The term Catholic began to be used as the Church spread throughout the Roman Empire, because it means universal.

The “Bible church of christ in jerasulem” is still there. The Church at Antioch where the disciples were first called Christians is still there. They exist today in the form of the Orthodox Church.

Without getting into a big history lesson the Christian religion started with Christ!!!

If you look at the times of Christ and the Apostles after the death, burial and resurrection it could be said that it was an Apostolic movement. Because the people where converted by the power of God as spoken of by the Apostles, as they were taught to speak by Jesus Christ.

The term Christians was first coined at Antioch, Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The first Christian Church was the Jerusalem Church.

Roman Catholicism began with the “falling away” predicted by Paul. Politically, it began when Emperor Justinian became the head of the Church at Rome in the 6th century.

    2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

    .
N O ! The Christian religion did not start with the Roman Catholics !

It actually started on the very first Sabbath with God, Adam & Eve i the Garden !

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

After the serpent deceived Eve, and sin entered the world, God ->
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [John 1:1-3]

God gave the “Gospel” to Adam and eve.

This was, and is the same gospel we have in the Bible today.

This gospel was expanded upon down through the ages by means of God’s Patriarchs, Prophets, Judges, Kings, and Jesus ( God’s Son ) , and is the same gospel taught and believed by Seventh-day Adventists today

I believe this gospel to be the ORIGINAL religion from God and ALL other religions are a variation of, or are in lieu of God’s original Gospel for the salvation of mankind.

May God bless you as you study His Word

The Church now knows at the Catholic Church was started by Jesus Christ Himself and His Apostles and disciples. The name Catholic Church was not used until many years later – but it is the same church.

This same Catholic Church is the same one that invented the very first hospital and university on earth.

So many self-proclaimed theologians on here are sooooo off base. The Catholic Church was not called the Catholic Church until many decades after Christ set it up and left Peter the keys. I know it is soooo hard for Christians of various denominations to understand and accept this fact. It makes them angry to consider their church would not ever exist had it not been for the Catholics.

I believe the best you MIGHT could truthfully say is that the Catholic Church WAS (could have been at one time) the original Christianity.

I use the past tense (“was” instead of “is”) because if they are the original church, then one could see that they teach the same things, are organized the same way, and worship the same way as the church described in the Bible.

The Catholic Church (and most others) has, however, changed in doctrine, practices, and organization through the years. I have seen many changes in my lifetime. (One of the more recent is the change in the doctrine of “Limbo”.)

Since there have been changes in the Catholic Church, they are no longer the original church.

The Catholic Church has changed, and continues to change in many ways through the years, therefore they are no longer the same church as the original (if indeed they ever were).

The Bible says that men will “depart from the faith”, seek after their own way, preach other gospels, be deceived, and leave sound doctrine. (1 Timothy 4:1-3, 2 Timothy 4:1-4, Gal. 1:6-9) If they want to be part of the original church, they should return to teach and practice the things the original church did.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings…” (Hebrews 13:8-9)

To trace a church back to the original, one can’t simply trace it through TIME, but it must be traced by DOCTRINE.

If a church teaches, practices, is organized, and worships the way the original church did, then they are the same. If a church changes over time, however, they are no longer the same church, even if they began as such!

We can disagree whether the the Catholic Church (through all of its changes) dates back to the first Pentecost after Christ’s resurrection, but the important question is what they teach and how they are organized NOW (as compared to the original church in the Bible)!

I can observe the church is never called the “Catholic Church” in the Bible.

The first Christian religion was Catholicism. Any Christian denomination in the Bible simply couldn’t be anything but Catholic.

The first Christian church other than Catholicism was the Oriental Orthodox Church, and that was founded in 431 A.D., 106 years after the First Council of Nicaea, and 398 years after Jesus founded the Church, which had to have been Catholic.
