Who would fear death more an atheist or a christian?
Oscar Manuel Perez asked:
I mean a chrisitian believes he will have eternal life after death and a paradise.
An atheist doesn’t. He doesn’t believe in god so does that mean he doesn’t believe in an after life.
I mean in an example of war. would an atheist think twice before giving his own life for the lifes of his man. i know a christian would but would the atheist thinkg it twice before doing it?

I am an atheist, and I do not fear death. It is the natural end to all life — why should one fear what comes for us all?

“He doesn’t believe in god so does that mean he doesn’t believe in an after life.”
An atheist doesn’t believe in any god, not just yours
I’m going to say the Christian, atheists don’t think about being judged on where you will go for all of eternity….
they just die
And I don’t think anyone really fears death, only dying
Death is fine if you’re going to heaven, maybe not so much if you go to hell
And if you’re atheist death is just not existing, you won’t feel anything, so it doesn’t matter

yes, wishful thinking can be a comfort blanket. However, to accept the truth as it is ( that there is no afterlife) is the best thing to do.

I don’t know. I guess atheists wouldn’t think about it all that much, and Christians believe they are going to heaven.
Why don’t you try asking some of us?

If they lived a good life, none of them should have to worry about a thing.
God Bless.

It’s hard to say. Christians, I think, might fear going to Hell, but then again they might be certain they’ll reach Heaven and be with their Father and their loved ones. An atheist, (usually, not all the time) believes that death is a full stop. Some might perceive that as a good thing, others might dread it.
To me, the idea of a full stop sounds better than the afterlife, but that’s just me. I’m not expecting many people to feel the same way.

A Christian.
By the time you guys realize the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ is nothing more than an illusion of what you really WANT to happen…you’ll just spend your final moments disappointed you ever believed at all–and scared of death as well.
Atheists on the other hand…well we already know our lives end the minute we lose consciousness. Dying is a part of life after all.

i’m not too afraid of death. i know that my religion is right and i’ve led a good life. some christians fear death because they are afraid that they were bad or they just don’t like the idea of rotting or having family mourn or the creepiness or they are just afraid of the pain. atheists are afraid of death more, i think, because after this life, that’s it. no more. how can they live with that fear?

All living creatures fear death to a certain degree. It’s called the survival instinct. In an abstract sense, I do not fear death because I know:
1. It’s inevitable
2. I’m living the best way I can, every moment of every day, so I am comfortable with the prospect of an sudden, unplanned demise.

Christians don’t fear death (at least they have no reason to) but I think everyone must feel some fear about dying because it’s so often very difficult. I’ve never heard of a Christian becoming an atheist at the time of their deaths but it’s common for atheists to become Christians.

No not religious Christianity. Those who still lives in sin , fear; and those who are set free by Jesus don’t
Sin & Pride cause fears and anxiety and in turns produces diseases and death while those who are set free by the Blood of The Lamb of God , have abundant life and immortality – no fear only joy unspeakable and full of glory!

I would guess the one to fear death the most would be the one who believes in God, but chooses not to follow Him.
A soldier, either Atheist or Christian, might or might not give their life for their brother. No one really knows what they would do until such a moment arrives. Either one will follow their heart at the moment as to what they must do…and if they do give their life for their brother, it is usually without a second thought. This act of love (John 15:13) has been shown by both Atheist and Christian I’m sure. Likewise I’m sure people of each belief, when the moment has arrived, have chosen to save themselves.

Atheist do not believe in an after life. But read in your Bible what they will do when the Lord comes to get His own. They beg not to go to hell, but He tells them He knew them not. They are not concerned now, but some day it will not be as funny as they think now.

i can only answer for myself, from a Christian perspective…i am thoroughly enjoying life, but death is not the enemy, and i do not fear it. as for giving my life for someone else, Christ said, ‘there is no greater love than this, that a man would lay down his life for his brother’

We all die. Christians have this great hope and joy in resurrection. Jesus conquered the death.

I think a christian would fear death more. I’m talking about eternal death. We as Christians should fear the lord. We know what is at stake. Atheist don’t believe or know God. If they did, they would be more afraid of Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell fire. I don’t really know what an atheist fears. I know when I die, I will sleep in the grave until the Resurrection. God reserves the just and the unjust for the last day. Won’t they be surprised?

I havn’t heard of too many Atheist martyrs. The whole point of Christianity is Faith in heaven and the lord. To say a christian doubts their faith more than an Atheist at the last moment is silly. Our minds cast fear weather our hearts do or not. The mind is constantly weighing what’s given to it and faith is suppose to be based beyond our own comprehension of the mind.

Well, I’ve listened to “Thoughts of a Dying Atheist” by Muse. I interpret it as being about an atheist who’s on his deathbed. He’s definately going to die, but he has a few days to think about it. Now he’s not so sure what he believes, because although he’s been an atheist, he’s thinking- what if I’m wrong? What if there really is a God and He’ll punish me for not believing? (I don’t think God would punish them, personally, so long as they’re good people.)
Don’t call me a silly Christian, please. Although I consider myself Christian and believe in a higher power, I do acknowledge the fact that I could be wrong, unlike most fundamentalist Christians or “hardcore” atheists.
