How come American Christianity seems radically different from other Christianity?

†♥One of the Gods♥† asked:

I was in europe and asia and Christianity there seems less radicalized and less immediately tied to radical political movements.

Back in the US, there seems to be much Christian agendas that wants to radically change the government? How did this come about? How did US become a radical Christian state with very very different set of beliefs from their international counter parts?

There is more than one American Christianity.

Also, at least America isn’t socialist, loser.

I don’t think the US is a radical Christian state nor do I think the majority of Americans are radical Christians, but there is a group of Christian Americans who are, but not the majority. They’re the people who are part of the religious right. As for why they came about, not sure. Hard to say. There’s some books about the issue. The religious right largely originates from the south so some theories I’ve heard is that it’s a result of the civil war and the south never properly recovering, so all they had was religion, and they became just a little too obsessed with it.

    Americans aren’t Europeans.

We fought 3 wars over that.

Because the ignorance of fundamentalism has infected life in the USA. They are an embarrassment, even to Christians.

JESUS said not to be lukewarm. So, which do you think is right, according to JESUS?

JESUS is God and Savior! :D

This is true- fundamentalism and the evangelical movement really only exists here. Ditto creationism- the movement only exists through extreme right-wing nutbags here in the good ole USA.

My husband and I have seriously considered moving to Europe, where people are rational and intelligence is still valued.

This is radioactive fallout from the Moral Majority undertow attempting to wrap Christ up in an American Flag and wave him about like a battle banner.

It’s not American Christianity but American Protestantism. In fact, the idea of a literal six-day creation was born at Princeton university early in the last century. It’s never been a part of Christianity.

The majority of Christians in the US are Catholic, but there is a noisy minority of Protestant Fundamentalists, just like anyplace else. If you want to see what Christianity in America looks like, go here:

Being involved in politics is an AMERICAN tradition. Both Christians and Non-Christians are equally passionate about their politics here. It has nothing to do with Christianity.

In fact, isn’t that the whole idea of a Democracy?
